Dear Parents,
I hope your summer was joyous, fun, and restful! The new school year is upon us, so as our children continue their school education, they should also continue their religious education. If you have a child in grades Kindergarten – 10th and they do not attend a Catholic School, they should be registered in a Faith Formation Program at the parish. As the Director of Religious Education at St. Francis Xavier Parish, and I would like to invite you to take advantage of our religious education programs set up to help your child grow in their Catholic faith and to help them prepare for the sacraments.
In keeping with the surrounding parishes and the Diocese of Venice, please understand that when your child receives a sacrament (First Holy Communion (grade 2) or Confirmation (grade 10)) that it is a two CONSECUTIVE year process. So if your child was not in Faith Formation last year and is entering the 2nd grade this year, they will receive the
sacrament of First Holy Communion in the 3rd grade, after completing at least one full year prior. Also, in accordance to the changes implemented for the entire Diocese by Bishop Frank Dewane, Confirmation will now be administered in the 10th grade, provided they were in faith formation last year in the 9th grade or are currently enrolled at Bishop Verot in the 10th grade.
Registration for Faith Formation and Sacramental Preparation classes will be after all Masses on the weekends of August 20/21st and August 27/28th. A copy of your child’s Baptismal Certificate is required. To save some time, you can download a copy of all the registration forms from our website: www.stfrancisfm.org, fill it out ALL 4 FORMS
(Registration, Medical Authorization, Photo Image Release, and Third Party Pickup Release) and bring them completed with you to registration. The fee for the Faith Formation programs is only $35 per child or just $50 for a family. There is no charge for St. Francis Xavier School or Bishop Verot students attending just the Sacramental Prep classes
(for 2nd grade First Hoy Communion and 10th grade Confirmation). Scholarships are available to families who qualify. Please present payment and a copy of baptismal certificate at the time of registration.
Classes start on September 28th, 2010 and will be Wednesday nights from 6:00-7:30p.m., meeting in Xavier Hall. Parents/guardians are required to attend the first class on September 28th for information, paperwork and expectations of the entire year. You are encouraged to stay every week for our Adult Faith Formation program for adults (especially the parents of the students) at the same time. I look forward to seeing you all at the
registration weekends!
Sincerely,
Michael Reardon
Director of Religious Education
