St. Francis Xavier Students Preparing for First Communion & Bishop Verot High School Students Preparing for Confirmation
Dear Parents,
This school year should be a very special year for you and your child. It means that your child is either in the second grade First Holy Communion Class at St. Francis Xavier School or they are in the tenth grade at Bishop Verot, the year for their reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation. First Holy Communion and Confirmation Preparation are administered through the parish and not the school. Your child will continue to receive their religious education daily at St. Francis Xavier or Bishop Verot, but during a year they receive a sacrament, the family will need to participate in Sacramental Prep Classes.

These are required classes and will meet once a month starting in November and run until they receive First Holy Communion or Confirmation (usually in April/May). At least one parent is required to attend; however, both parents are encouraged if possible. The classes will be one Sunday a month (a schedule will be provided after you register) after the 9:30 Mass. We ask that you attend the 9:30 Mass and then meet in Xavier Hall after Mass for the classes. Please plan about 2 ½ hours for each class. More information including the exact dates and a reminder will be mailed to you prior to classes beginning, provided you register for the classes during registration weekends listed below.
You will need to register your child for these Sacramental Prep classes and there is no charge. As stated in the bulletin and in announcements before Mass, registration will be on the weekends of August 20th - 21st and August 27th - 28th after all Masses (Currently 4:00pm Saturday, and 7:30, 9:30, and 11:30am and 4:00pm (in Creole) on Sunday). All you need to do is fill out the 5 registration forms and turn them into the stand in the front of the church. You can also download the forms from the parish website to have them filled out prior to turning it in. Be sure to fill out ALL 5 FORMS below (Registration, Medical Authorization, Photo Image Release, Third Party Pickup Release, and Covid Release Form) and bring them with you to registration. Please note, it is very important that you provide a copy of your child’s Baptismal Certificate for their file, even if you gave a copy to the school, we need a copy at the parish as well. If you do not have a copy, you only need to contact the Parish Office of the church in which they were baptized and request a copy (this includes if you do not have a copy to present and your child was baptized at St. Francis Xavier). If for any reason you miss the registration date, you can bring the completed form to the parish office Monday-Friday, 9:00a.m.-4:00p.m. prior to September 12th.

Parents of students from St. Francis Xavier School and Bishop Verot High School will only be taking the Sacramental Prep classes so parents ARE NOT required to attend the orientation on September 21st listed on the registration form, as you only need to attend the monthly Sacramental Prep Classes beginning in November. If you child is in 9th or 10th grades, they will also need to register with the High School Youth Group and attend at least once a month.
Thank you for your help and sacrifice to help ensure a faith filled First Holy Communion. I hope you and your families have a very blessed school year.
Sincerely,
Michael Reardon
Director of Religious Education
